CONCEPT
The United States and Portugal might not literally be connected by a bridge, but the bridges between our nations have continued to expand. Our commitment is reflected in the sacrifices of Portuguese and American troops who stand shoulder to shoulder in the NATO operations. In our design, the idea of the “bridge” will be used as a metaphor to represent the relationship that connects the United States and Portugal; color, culture and community will be the basis of this “bridge.” Clear sight lines will be implemented representing the many obstacles these countries have overcome. Because the main purpose of a bridge is to provide a route of passage through an obstacle, we have made it a priority to establish a clearly organized and well connected interior that supplies users with a variety of public and privates spaces. Colors honoring both Portugal and the United States, with the addition of original Portuguese tiles, creates an inviting place that works to bridges these two countries together for many years to come.
